CVS makes pet medications available at its 9,000 locations
Pet owners can fill prescriptions for select pet-only medications, including antibiotics, allergy, flea and tick control, insulin and pain relievers, at their local CVS Pharmacy. Pet prescriptions are eligible for many of the same pharmacy services as their owners’, including automatic refills and prescription syncing, and home delivery.
Mark Morris Institute releases updates to nutrition guide
The nonprofit organization released updates to the MMI Nutrition Guide, a free software program for veterinarians and veterinary students. The Guide is partly a quick reference online textbook and partly an inclusive digital product guide for the most used therapeutic diet manufacturers. Diet information is included from Royal Canin, Purina, Hill’s, and EmerAid product guides or directly by the manufacturers. The disease management summaries have been written and reviewed by Board Certified Veterinary Nutritionists, according to the Institute.
CATalyst Council releases second edition of ‘Puppocalypse, Kitten Craze’ report
CATalyst Council released the second edition of “Puppocalypse, Kitten Craze, and the Expectations Reset: What Pet Demographics Reveal About U.S. Veterinary Visits Through 2035,” updating its original forecast with second-quarter 2026 veterinary visit data and new corroborating research. The original white paper, published in June, forecast combined U.S. clinical visit growth of −2% to 0%.
Zoetis to acquire VitalRADS
The company’s acquisition of VitalRADS, provider of veterinary teleradiology services, is intended to enhance Zoetis’ reference laboratory services. VitalRADS provides around-the-clock access to board-certified veterinary specialists who review digital radiographs, ECGs, CT scans, and MRI scans from all modalities across more than 25 species, delivering same-day results and two-hour STAT reads. The business supports more than 1,800 active customers, including corporate and independent practices and universities.
CatsOnly to open first feline-only hospital this fall
CatsOnly Veterinary Services announced the hospital will open in Aurora, Colorado, with a second Denver-area facility planned for early 2027. According to the company, CatsOnly facilities will address the most common barriers preventing cats from receiving veterinary care, including the stress of the visit, the challenge of getting cats into a carrier and uncertainty about the cost of care. CatsOnly was founded by Craig Wallace (CEO), Scott Maloney (COO), Kristin Wuhrman (chief marketing officer) and Dr. Jason Epstein (CVO).
Mission Pet Health, Texas humane society open surgical mentorship center
Operation Kindness Humane Society in Carrollton, Texas, and Mission Pet Health have opened the Dr. Barbara Craig Surgical Mentorship Center, a training facility to provide hands-on surgical training for new veterinarians. Participants will gain experience with advanced surgical techniques while helping provide care for shelter animals.
Hospice and palliative care veterinarians seek recognition
The American Board of Veterinary Specialties is accepting comments through Aug. 13 to a proposal by proponents of a veterinary palliative care and hospice specialty. There are currently 48 specialties overseen by 22 veterinary specialty organizations, which typically are known as “colleges.”
Buzz Health, VetHubRx embed discount Rx pricing into prescribing workflow
Buzz Health, a technology company focused on veterinary prescription management, and VetHubRx, a veterinary e-prescribing platform, have integrated real-time prescription discount pricing into VetHubRx’s e-prescribing and consumer-facing platforms. Through the collaboration, veterinary providers and pet owners can access and apply the lowest available discount price at the point of prescribing and fulfillment.
